THE 74TH ANNUAL WESTCLIFFE STAMPEDE PRCA RODEO WAS AN ASTOUNDING SUCCESS!
Rodeo Committee received a very good “report card” from PRCA on our rodeo. The rodeo judges and some contestants do a rating on the rodeos they work and Westcliffe Stampede received an “A”. See entire report HERE.

Westcliffe Stampede PRCA Rodeo
July 17-18, 2020
Following 73 years of producing an annual rodeo, the Wet Mountain Valley Saddle Club held their very first year of Professional Rodeo. Their year of preparing for this PRCA rodeo was an example of experience at
work.
2020 brought extreme concerns for public health because of the pandemic. Regulatory demands that were a last minute addition to the needs of concern for the committee to address proved to be another hurdle. They met those first ever requirements with grace, respect, and clarity as contestants and fans were each asked a set of questions and each one's
temperature was taken and recorded. All this was handled in a very short time frame. Job well done!
The facility is well designed and in good, workable order. They have a very neat, clean venue that functions well for both livestock and contestants. Extra lighting for the arena was added for this rodeo which is one example
of forethought and preparation. Ground preparation was another area addressed in preparation for this event. Many barrel racers expressed their appreciation for this effort.
Animal welfare concerns were in place, the accessibility of the vet was taken care of, and contestants especially appreciated the hospitality tent. One consideration for future years would be a few trailer parking spaces available with electricity for rodeo personnel. Limited motel/hotel availability is a problem for some.
Thank you to the WMVSC for the hard work and expense of making this event a great success. Your community and the PRCA need you in Professional Rodeo.
This report filed on behalf of the judging team of John Kissel and Kent
Crouch by crew chief John Kissel.
Many of our Rodeo Committee heads will be attending the PRCA National Convention in Fort Worth, Texas November 30 to December 3, 2020. More information on the event HERE.
